Earlier this year, a study in the ‘Annals of Internal Medicine’ alerted us that sitting for extended periods of time can lead to a number of health issues—all of which could cause premature death. But thankfully, new research has determined the best way to avoid that office chair’s negative side effects, and what's even better news is that it’s totally feasible! For those of us with 9 to 5 desk jobs, the best remedy is just two minutes of walking for every hour of sitting. Researchers found that standing up every hour and walking for two minutes cut participants’ risk of premature death by 33 percent, we’ll repeat that again, 33 percent! Whether you set a timer on your phone every hour or keep filling your water bottle to ensure hourly bathroom breaks, the important thing is to keep moving throughout the day. What are some other ways you can remind yourself (and even encourage your coworkers) to take walking breaks? Share your ideas in the comments below.
