Two years after having a preventative double mastectomy due to a mutation in her BRCA1 gene, Angelina Jolie had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as well last week, putting her in menopause. The Academy Award winning star announced this news in another poignantly-penned piece for the New York Times today in an attempt to inform women in risk about cancer-preventing options (which can also include taking birth control pills or alternative medicines). Kudos to Jolie for opening up about something so personal and emotionally challenging in effort to educate other people on taking control of their health.
