In today’s ‘strange yet true’ news, researchers may have found a possible link between alcoholism and blue eyes. As random as that sounds, researchers analyzed the genes of more than 10,000 people and found that the genetic determinants that produce those baby blues were related to genes that prompted excessive alcohol consumption. So does this suggest that one in six Americans (those who carry the recessive blue eye trait) is destined to become an alcoholic? Not necessarily, say the researchers, who note that the study doesn’t prove a cause-and-effect relationship between the two. Rather than worry about how your genes may predispose you to certain conditions, we suggest focusing instead on what you can control—namely, how your choices and decisions are supporting your goals for a happy and healthy lifestyle.
