Farewell to juice cleanses and lemon/cayenne pepper/maple syrup concoctions. As it turns out, we may be able to have our fish tacos or banana coconut muffins and still be able to detox, too. Megan Gilmore, author of the book ‘Everyday Detox,’ challenges the current conventions of detoxing that tout subsisting on liquid diets to rid our bodies of toxins.
Gilmore says with her recipes “detoxers won’t feel bloated or uncomfortable after eating” and that they are packed with all-natural, whole-foods ingredients designed to stave off feelings of deprivation.
On the contrary, detoxing needn’t require strict restrictions, says Gilmore, whose book includes mouth-watering recipes like strawberry lime sorbet (click the link below), the aforementioned banana coconut muffins, broccoli cheese soup and even peppermint fudge bars that she insists are all detox-friendly.
