If the thought of heading into the office each day causes an uptick in your blood pressure, it might be time to evaluate whether your job might be taking a toll on your health. According to a Swedish study, high levels of job stress raises the risk of mental health disorders and subsequent sick leave, with women being the majority who took leave over the past five years. While stress is inevitable with any job, being able to determine whether it’s ‘good’ stress versus ‘unhealthy’ stress is a positive first step toward assessing its impact on your overall wellness. If your job is not causing nervous breakdowns, exercise can be a helpful way to manage it. However, if it’s impacting your mental health (such as triggering depression or intense anxiety), voice your concerns to a supervisor or start perusing the job market for other opportunities.
