For anyone who’s attended their high school reunion, the results of this study—proving that some people age faster than others—likely won’t come as an earth-shattering revelation. There are always those classmates who look like they’re perpetually 22 while others could be mistaken for a 22-year-old’s parents. For those in the latter category, this is due to having an older ‘biological age,’ which is influenced by organ health (particularly the kidneys, liver, lungs and heart) as well as genetics and one’s environment. While we may not be able to evade aging altogether, research from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine has found that exercise, a healthy diet and sufficient sleep may decelerate it. If you’re concerned you’re on the aging fast track, we recommend focusing on these three pillars of health and trying to minimize stressful environmental factors.
