Hybrid earplugs/ear buds: another Kickstarter success story?

Researchers from the University of California, San Diego claim to have developed what they call are “The World’s First Smart Earplugs.”

These earplugs, named “hush” are meant to be worn all night and researchers say they can block ambient noise and emit calming sounds during sleeping hours, then switch to alarm mode when you want to wake up.

The earplugs would connect to a smartphone app— where you can set your alarm to go off in your earplugs. The product is looking like an early success on Kickstarter, raising more than $400,000 thus far.

Sounds like a boon for partners of snorers, but that's a lot of wireless signals going straight to the brain. I wonder which carries more health risks: years of sleepless nights, or thousands of hours of Bluetooth? Only time will tell.
