We are relieved and distraught to read this Mark Bittman op-ed today. Relieved not only that this diet and food expert spoke out about the dangers of Roundup and its ubiquity, but also that he made irrefutable points. Bittman provides an excellent argument that Monsanto, who produces Roundup, should be responsible for ensuring the safety of its product, not the FDA and not taxpayers. We also agree with his call to label foods containing GMOs; how is this still not mandated? Bittman points out that if GMOs were good for us, they would be promoted on labels, and that the only way to clearly avoid GMOs is to buy organic. As for distraught, it’s almost impossible to avoid the toxic chemicals around us, and waiting until we’re sick to yank them out of our food is not the answer.
