Porn can have the same effect on your brain as drugs, according to a recently released study. According to researchers from the University of Cambridge, pornography activates the same part of the brain in sex addicts, as drugs do in drug addicts.

The study, which was published in the journal PLOS One, involved performing functional MRIs on 19 men affected by compulsive sexual behavior. The team then compared the results with a group of healthy volunteers.

Researchers were able to conclude that that three regions of the brain were more active in the sex addicts -- the ventral striatum, the dorsal anterior cingulate and the amygdala. Those three regions can also be activated in drug addicts if they are shown drug-related stimuli. Researchers say those three regions of the brain are linked to reward, motivation and cravings.

Addiction can be a troubling thing and it would help if more research could be done to improve treatments for both sex and drug addicts. Have you heard of any treatments that could be of benefit to an addict?
