There are several reasons, from staying fit and preparing the body for labor to helping with sleep issues, why expectant mothers flock to yoga studios for prenatal yoga classes. Now a new study has found that it may also help with depression. The 10-week study found that not only did levels of depression fall, but mindfulness was also increased with daily yoga classes and the encouragement of practicing yoga at home. These findings may be very helpful, as many women shy away from taking any sort of antidepressant during pregnancy, but they aren’t very surprising as there have already been studies linking a decrease in depression during pregnancy and post-partum depression to exercise.
